Dogs get special attention almost everywhere as it is man’s best friend. There are many reasons that cause dogs to dig in the ground. Normally, it might be simply having fun. Even bred dogs dig and terriers are known to dig in the ground in search of prey. Sometimes dogs dig in the ground for some reason and one should exclude the possibility of cats burrowed in the ground here. Dog licking is a form of body language. Getting a dog lick is far better feeling than getting a bite. Dog can be seen licking at things all the time and it apparently looks harmless. Sometimes they can be seen licking unpleasant things especially those that smell bad.
According to experts, the reasons why dogs dig are to probe, to get rid of boredom, bury something and for cover. There may be other reasons why dogs dig. They dig to make holes for their pup as in the case of pregnant dogs, they dig to catch mouse or other rodents that have holes in the ground. Stray dogs dig in the ground to run for cover. However dogs mostly dig a hole simply to kill time. Dogs also dig holes to take shelter during warm days. A grown up dog regulates its body temperature just like when it was young so it needs to burrow in the ground to get cooled down. It can be said that its in their nature to dig.
Licking is a habit of a dog’s life since the beginning. Some of the common reasons for licking are an expression of loyalty, expression of obedience, expression of attraction, cleaning and as a usual habit. A dog may be licking because of anxiety and fear which can be in those dogs that are not given to barking and instead of making noise; they lick things around to seek comfort. Besides this, one reason might be anxiety rooted in excitement. Its lick is an equivalent to a kiss. When dogs like each other, they lick certain parts of their body to express the feeling. Mother dogs lick their pups to clean them. Grown up dogs clean themselves by licking their paws, hinds or any body part where their tongue can reach. If a dog is trained to lick, then it turns into a habit.
To stop a dog from digging, first it needs to be known why the dog is digging a hole. To divert its attention, it can be taken out to the beach or somewhere it can run around and do its thing. Nothing encourages a dog more than the time a master spend with it. This will make it completely forget about digging. If a pet dog is caught while digging, it should be discouraged from doing that by covering the hole with stones or cardboard. The dog must be given a feeling that it is not being liked while doing it. It will definitely take some time before it settles in its mind but it surely will and also with a bit of the master’s patience.

Pets have become as important in our lives as our children and for some people, their pets are their children. Thanks to dietary and veterinary advances, pets, like people, are living for significantly longer and as such are seeing more veterinary care. Surgery on pets has also grown tremendously as affectionate owners are opting for expensive procedures rather than putting their animals down. These visits and surgeries can be very expensive and our pets, like us, should be covered with a health plan to pay for unexpected medical treatment.
Finding an insurance company to insure your pets is often as simple as logging onto the internet, using a search engine and comparing company reviews. Unless you have a truly unusual pet, you should not have a problem getting their health insured. Most domestic animals from lizards and snakes to guinea pigs and rabbits to cats and dogs can be covered for anything from routine veterinary visits to lab tests to major surgeries. Some insurance companies even offer breed specific cover for specialized or rare breeds of dogs and cats. Even exotic birds can be covered.
It is a good idea to cover your pet as soon as you possibly can. Most companies will insure pets from the age of six weeks. Insuring them from a young age before pre-existing or genetic ailments develop could save you a lot of money. Insurance companies will also renew your policy even if your pet has fallen ill or was involved in an accident. Most insurers will not cover pets that are older than ten due to the increased risk.
Basic policies will cover illness, accidents, surgery and any lab tests, medications and treatment of cancer. Some companies offer routine care cover as an optional extra which might not be a bad idea. Pet insurance is much cheaper than human health insurance so the additional cover will often be affordable. Make a note of your insurance company’s cover of breed-specific problems as some companies are quite specific on that point. If possible do not buy animals that are known to have genetic weaknesses
Pet insurance usually works as a reimbursement plan. Since veterinary care is much cheaper than human health care, you can usually find the cash to pay upfront and then claim from your insurance company afterwards. In extreme cases, you can sometimes make arrangements with your veterinarian to accept partial payment until your insurance has paid out. It is important to note on your insurance schedule whether there are payment limits per claim as this could prove to be a difficulty in the event of a major surgery or other expensive treatment.
Remember to shop around and view potential company’s reviews on independent reviewer websites. Make use of price comparison websites to find good deals. Also check with your current health insurance company to see if they do not have an add-on pet insurance option. Ensure that the prospective company has a sound financial history so they do not leave you stranded in the event of a claim.

Are you frustrated with canine licking? If you have a dog licking everything in sight, including you, herself, and the carpet, you and your dog have a problem. What causes this odd dog behavior? And is there any way to stop dog licking?
Why Does A Dog Lick Everything?
Dogs lick for many reasons. Dogs greet their owners and show their affection for them by licking them. It’s also a way of showing submission to the pack leader. This is normal dog behavior.
But sometimes dogs carry this to an extreme, either licking themselves until they develop bald spots, or engaging in excessive licking in dogs around their owners. Other dogs lick the carpet, or furniture or other items. These bad dog habits can be extremely frustrating, and even mystifying.
Any time a dog is licking herself enough to cause a bald spot or even a sore, she needs a trip to the vet. Many problems can cause excessive canine licking, including fleas, allergies, arthritis, and skin irritations. The more the dog licks, the more she itches, and the more she licks. It becomes a vicious cycle, and your dog can develop a lick granuloma as a result.
If your dog licks her paws after she eats, she could have a food allergy. Try changing her diet. Check the first four ingredients, and look for a food that doesn’t have corn or meat by-products as one of them. Check the protein source, too. If chicken is listed in the first four ingredients, look for one that has lamb or beef instead.
Once medical causes are ruled out, you can assume it’s a dog behavior problem.
Can You Stop Dog Licking?
Yes, you can, but you may have to play detective to figure out why your dog won’t stop licking. Often, excessive canine licking is due to anxiety. The dog is licking herself to make herself feel better about something going on in her life. It can quickly become obsessive compulsive behavior.
Try to identify why your dog is anxious. Is your dog left by herself for long hours every day? It’s possible that you need to be giving your dog more time and attention.
Dogs also need at least an hour and a half of rousing exercise every day to use up all their pent-up energy. If you don’t have this much time to spend with your dog, you may want to consider hiring a dog walker during the day.
Many owners inadvertently train their dogs to develop bad dog habits. Be aware of when you give your dog the most attention. Is it when she’s doing something annoying, like licking herself or you or your furniture? If so, you’re reinforcing the behavior. Dogs want your attention and will do whatever it takes to get it.
Start giving her lots of attention when she’s doing something you like. When she starts to lick, say “no!” very firmly. If she’s licking you, turn away and ignore her for a couple of minutes. If she’s licking the furniture or carpet, redirect her with a toy. With time and persistence, you can successfully train her to end this bad dog habit.
A Good Dog Obedience Course Can Work Wonders
You can see how easy it is to accidentally train your dog to do the exact opposite of what you want her to. Avoid this problem by finding a good dog training course that includes a free consultation with an experienced dog trainer.
So go ahead…stop dog licking by taking the first step toward solving the problem of your dog licking everything in sight.
