I need some dog training advice?

I have a 5 month old Sibeiran Husky puppy. I exercise him a lot and give him lots of love, but I need to sharpen up his training. He already knows the basics, come, sit, lay down, he’s starting to get stay. He also is really good outside and comes, unlike some huskies, who are known to be stubbon and free spirited.

I want to train him at home, rather than go to an obedience class. I don’t live in town, and to drive all the way there for an expensive class, when I’m sure I can do it at home, doesn’t seem worth it enough.

I need him to be more well mannered. I’d like to know how to get him to stay by my side, not to jump on people (he’s getting better, but I have to ask him to get down). I just want him to be a little more polite. I know he’s an abnoxious puppy, they all are, but I want to start re-enforcing good manners now while he’s still young.

He also gets really excited and leaps in the air and pulls on the leash when he sees another dog. I take him to the Farmer’s Market to socialize him, but he wants to go see everyone! Any advice how to keep him calm and stay by my side?

Also, any advice on how to stop pulling on the leash? He doesn’t really do it, but my older Siberian Husky does and he’s starting to follow her example and I want both of them to not pull. I don’t agree with choke collars.

Any other training advice is welcome.

Thanks

BTW: I don’t watch TV, so no dog training shows

Looking for advice on custody case…plz read?

I have a 6 yr old lil boy with my ex I left in 2007 due to a very controlling, verbally abusive relationship. I had been with the man for 5 years and things started going down hill the last two years of our relationship with fighting arguing etc. He always made several threats of hurting him or me if I were to leave so I always ended up staying. Needless to say I ended up getting the courage to just leave him once and for all. Although He would not allow me to take the only vehicle we had in which I was the one who needed it most considering I was the only worker in the household. But you know what, I let him keep it. I was not about to let that hold me back after everything I had been through. Now the worst part of all this is my son was 3 yrs old at the time I left and I honestly had no destination when I left with NO place to go and call home..(In other words had to bounce from friends to friends homes) So obviously, I did not want to put my son through this unstable situation. THEREFORE, I left him with dad. I did keep contact with my son and took him on weekends when I had a place to stay with him etc..A few months go by I get my stuff together Get a new place and talk with his father about me getting him to come live with me and then his father started making threats that he would kill himself if I took my son from him etc. he said that my son was all he had in life and if I took him then that would be it and he would end his life. I was very scared so just let things be.

Well needless to say it’s been 3 yrs and I want my son. He was hospitalized in February for 2 weeks with Bacterial Pneumonia…I was there all 14days/nights…His dad came to visit him 3 times for about an hour each time. when my son was released I let him go back to dads house because I needed to get back to work and don’t have child care set up for him as he had been staying with his unemployed father. I have had several concerns with my ex’s parenting, that I finally started a Parental Rights and Responsibilities case. My ex got an attorney, his dad bought for him. My ex and son live with his father which is a veteran and is always off and on his medications. (Scary)…I can’t afford a lawyer as I have my OWN home with my other 2 children, pay my bills etc. So I got a Pro-Bono Lawyer.

My son is in kindergarten, way behind not meeting the expectations. DHHS was at my ex’s home last fall for a report of unsupervised children (neighbor reported). Ex says it was about his girlfriends children..? I have been told my ex sells and smokes pot. My son tells me he has to baby-sit a 2yr old that lives in the home w/him when they are outside. My son tells me the dogs always bite him, my sons exposed to second hand smoke in his dads home…I could go on and on. We have been to court a couple times so far, mediation etc. Hopefully getting a Guardian ad Litem soon, Judge approved for one, my lawyer is working on a pro-bona one b/c I guess they are very $$$.

I am looking for others opinions on how this will all turn out….I am anxious and unfortunately the court process is extremely slow…I am a good mother, I have my other 2 children which are 8 and 10yrs old(diff. dad) living with me, and always have. My youngest one I am talking about above is very eager to come live with us, however his dad wants to make it impossible. Him and his lawyer keep asking “why now” Why now because my concerns are not something I can just let go… Thanks for reading!

What is the most dangerous advice?

I live in the country and people around here avoid the vet like the plague. I have heard some of the most dangerous or stupid advice passed around. Things like if a dog is overweight, only feed it every other day or if you think your dog has eaten poison, feed them bacon grease. So what is the stupidest, most dangerous advice you’ve heard? Not that I have ever listened to or followed any of this crap.
I live in NC, out in the country! My animals go to the vet if they need too trust me.

Bitten by neighbors dog, what advice would you have speaking in legal terms?

I was in my apt complex and my neighbor opened up his door and let his pit bull run after me.The dog bit me pretty bad on the arm,I fought the dog off while the owner watched. He then walked over to me and called his dog off me.I called 911,the police officer said it was an animal control issue and he refused to file a report.I went to the hospital, received medical care which cost 450 dollars with the prescriptions they gave and treatment. The owner of the dog took the animal and hid him so animal control can not find the dog.I don’t know if it has rabies now.The owner lied to the animal control and said the dog that bit me was some stray he’d never seen before but was caught in a lie when the property manager let the animal control know they had given this guy 3 violation notices for having a vicious animal and it is his dog and he is being evicted in 2 weeks. My question is,what legal advice can you offer? I have contacted an attorney but can not afford to pay thousands of dollars for an attorney. What should I do? I live in Texas and would like to at least file a lawsuit for pain/suffering and medical costs.
and to the person who said “it’s just a dog bite” I required stitches because I was bleeding all over the place and had an infection. It was not a nip but the dog literally grabbed onto my arm and tried to tear it off.So tell me you wouldn’t feel the same way if it happened to you.

What is the best advice for crate training puppies?

I have a 10 week old Boxer and he’s been doing really well with the potty training. surprisingly he almost has it :) we’re now starting to crate train him to associate the crate with a safe place and not a bad place. he sleeps in it at night, but because of that he associates the crate with bedtime and when he goes in it he either sleeps or doesnt want to go in because he thinks he’s going to sleep. meanwhile we just want him in it during dinner or cleaning, etc…
any suggestions to make this a less stressful process? eventualyl when he can control his bladder for a longer period of time he will be home instead of with me all day.
