I’m thinking about starting to clicker train my puppy. He is about 16 weeks old.
I read that with clicker training, you’re supposed to click just as he is performing a wanted behavior… once he gets the behavior down, then attach a verbal cue with it so he learns to sit, for instance, when you tell him to.
I understand how clicker training works for those natural behaviors such as sit, lie down, etc….but I’m a little confused about how this works for more complicated tricks that he doesn’t just do naturally.
Say I want him to roll over…. do I coax him into rolling over and then click and treat when he does? How do I communicate to him that this is what I want him to do if I don’t have a verbal cue at first?
I am planning on getting a dog, but I’ve never had one before and I don’t know the first thing about training. I want to train it so it doesn’t end up like my cousin’s dog who jumps all over people and barks at everything. I want my dog to be my buddy so please hook me up with some sort of DVD to give me the basics of training my new dog right.

For my into paragraph for my paper on pet overpopulation, I am to use a quote that basically ties in with my topic. Does anyone have any good quotes from relatively famous people that would kind of sum up even something to do with pet neglect/overpopulation or just pets in general?
Annie, although there is a lot of proof that fuels your opinion, there is also a lot that fuels mine. My paper is not focused on pet population as a whole, but more on the euthanasia practices of shelters and whether or not they are ethical due to the overpopulation of the times. I do lightly touch the subject of irresponsible breeding and spaying/neutering.
Rayven, yeah, I know I’m going to have trouble finding a good quote that isn’t from a complete maniac. But, this is the most strict outline I have ever had to follow for an English paper, and it specifically says that I MUST use a quotation, so there isn’t much I can do about it.

My son’s dog a year old large chihuahua has issues, we cant go anywhere while my son is in school, his dog goes nuts ant rips everything apart, he’s tore the floor up, trying to get out you cant lock him in a room , he chews through the doors, you cant leave him outside he climbs the fence, if you tie him up he chews through the leashes, but he’s fine as long as someone is with him, but during the day I have things to do and I cant take him all the time, if I leave him in the car…..
HE EATS IT…..he’s costing me a lot of money, we cant get rid of him. then he’ll get upset and sneak and pee on our shoes or Personal items….Im going nuts…….any advise is welcome
ive tried to crate him and he still tries to chew his way out , he’s lost one tooth on the metal one, so we bought a plastic one with a door in the front and he’ll poop in it and kick it at the door, we’ve only had him for 5 months, maybe this is why his ex owners got rid of him, lol, he’s crazy
i’m ready to find him a new home, but my son is really attached to him and it would kill him
i didn’t mention, our other dog , she is a chihuahua/pitt bull mix and doesn’t behave this way, so he’s never really alone, they get along great
