Five and a half month old Puppy Training Tips?
My puppy is name Jasmine (Jazzy) born on May 18, 2009. She is a Black Standard poodle, with white on 3 of her paws and her chest.
Here are a few things I need a little help on…
1). Jazzy knows the basis of sit, but sometimes she does not listen. Is this normal? Is there anything to help it?
2). She bites and nips all the time! How can my family and I stop this?
3). Jazzy goes “number one” on her bed and my other dog’s (Riley, Schnoodle mix, 2years old) bed. My mom and I believe it is not her needing to go out, but her feeling the need to mark her territory. How can we stop this?
4). When poor Riley wants to rest, Jazzy will come up and start to bite and bark at her. Is there anyway we can make Jazzy stop bothering Riley?
5). When I take Riley and Jazzy out in our backyard, Jazzy always runs to one of our neighbors yards to visit. We do not have a fence, and we really don’t want an electric one. Is there anyway to stop this, or should I be disciplining her when she does that?
6). Jazzy still has a house training problem. About 5-8 times a week, take or give a few, she goes “number 1 or 2″ in our house. I have been told if we catch her in the act to say “NO!” and put her outside. But what if we don’t catch her? What can my family and I do then?
7). Any tips on the commands Stay, Come, Speak, and Lay Down?
Thanks so much!!!!! I really appreciate you guys even bothering to read this!! If you can answer one of these questions, great! If you can answer all of them, AWESOME!! ☺

May 18… my birthday. ^_^
1) She gets praise for performing the sit (or any other command). If she does not do it within two seconds or so, then guide her into it. Never repeat the command.
2) Biting and nipping is common and normal. She does it too hard (or at all) then there should be a consequence. Either end the game and/or walk away OR find another thing she dislikes (some dogs will learn after a good squirt to the chest with a little water bottle sprayer.)
3) Spay her. Should help marking behavior. I would also consider she may just have to go and the beds are the easy targets – monitor water, take her out often.
4) Correct the behavior – again with the water or a verbal reprimand. Or let the other dog deal with it – if he doesn’t like it, he’ll let her know.
5) Put her on a leash. Period. Can’t correct for running away, you would actually be doing so for her being caught (could make things much worse.)
6) If you can’t watch her, crate her – that will keep her from going in the home at all when backs are turned. Dogs don’t like messing where they sleep – keep her in the right time (one hour per month of age) and the crate will gentle persuade her to not potty. Block off other rooms so it’s easier to keep an eye on her.
7) Practice, practice, and more practice. Stay consistent with rewards AND corrections (proofing.) Pick up a few training books.
