14 week Pom puppy training tips? I’m trying to teach her to “come” and I need some ideas…?

We have a 16 week standard poodle and my husband got me a 14 wk pomeranian as a gift and I am trying to train her but am having a hard time. I know it’s probably not the best idea to have 2 puppies (of different breed) at once but we want to make this work. We both try to individually train the puppies in different rooms but our Pom puppy doesn’t seem to catch on. I’ve read that they are supposed to be smart puppies but she is so slow to learning. Do you have any ideas, experience or tips? Any help would be great, serious answers only thank you!

Come is easy with a puppy. Get a book and a handful of treats the pup thinks are yummy, sit down on the floor. The moment the puppy sees you on the floor he’ll head your way; at once start saying, “Puppy, come, good boy! Good come! C’mon, Puppy, come! Good come! Good boy!” When he reaches you, give him a tiny morsel of treat and pet him and tell him he’s such a smart puppy.

Then pick up your book and start to read, ignoring the puppy. He’ll wander off; you’re suddenly boring.

When he’s pretty far away, say, “Puppy, come!” The moment he turns toward you, start the praise. Praise him right into your lap, give him two treats and lots of praise.

Return to your book. He’ll take longer to wander off, but he will. Repeat the recall. This time give him four bites of treats and even more praise. Then stand up and end the session. Do this three times a day. The number of treats varies at random; the praise does not.

    He’ll catch on quick.

You can make it work. Just be patient and consistent with the training.

Use the same cue for the same command, every time. If you use “come” one week, “come here” the next, and “come here, boy” the following, you’ll confuse your dog. If your dog is allowed to pull on the leash sometimes but is jerked by the collar when he pulls at other times, you’ll confuse him. Make sure everyone who’s around your dog follows the same rules and uses the same cues.
