Labrador Retriever Puppy Training

In this article I want to give you an overview to Labrador Retriever puppy training.

The Labrador Retriever nicknamed a Lab were bred mainly to be gun dogs which is why they have the word ‘Retriever’ in their title. They would retrieve the dead birds shot down by the guns men. Another breed who is very similar and often mistaken for the Labrador is the Golden Retriever.Golden Retriever Puppy Training

Both breeds have a very similar build and are both very quick learners which is why Labrador training will seem easy. This is because both the Labrador and Golden Retrievers both get very excited about pleasing their owner. They look to get this praise and know that if they do as they are told they will.

You better make sure that you have plenty of energy if you want to take on either of these breeds because they both love been outside getting lots of exercise.

If you’re lucky enough to get either from the age of a puppy you will have a great opportunity to teach your dog and go on to a professional level. Training a Labrador puppy is just like training any other dog, it takes time and patience however the pay off is so much more in my opinion. The same story goes with Golden Retriever puppy training, because they both have the aptitude to learn so quickly means you can do a lot more with them.

Labrador temperament is something you won’t have much bother with as they are very friendly and reliable dogs. They are very good with Children and seem to want to meet other dogs with anticipation.

Labrador behavior again is something you will very easily be able to take charge of and direct them so their behavior meets your approval. One thing to mention is that you may have an issue with your Labrador chewing if you leave him on his own for long periods of time as he will get bored. Starting your Labrador Retriever puppy training as early as possible is key to avoiding this.

Labrador aggression is not much of a worry because they are so very good natured dogs that you’ll find that in only extreme cases where a Lab hasn’t been taken care of properly will he attack unprovoked. And this will most likely be because he is protecting his territory. If you do take on one of these breeds and they have had aggression issue in the past; I would advise you seek out some professional advice on the best steps to take for starting your Labrador obedience training. This will only matter with older dogs who have had a bad upbringing.

Labrador grooming be aware that Labradors can sometimes have very dry skin that can cause irritation and itchiness and can be made worst by some shampoos. I’d recommend that you only give your Lab a bath whenever he is really muddy or smells really badly. Try and leave it for as long as you can.

How To Train a Labrador Puppy

Labrador Retriever Puppy Training

Labrador training, like with most dogs, is always best done as early as possible which is why when you get your Lab pup home you must begin training as soon as he sets foot in your home. Once you’re over the ‘Awwww… Its a puppy’ stage then you must start applying the basic dog training techniques of ignoring his bad behavior and rewarding the good. If you start out as you mean to go then you will end up owning a magnificent animal who may even win you a few prizes in the long run.

Labrador Retriever puppy training can be a little dis-heartening sometimes and not just because he can’t learn your commands it could be because he is getting bored. To avoid this frustration I would recommend you only train for short periods of time more often for example just try teaching him a command for say 10 – 15 minutes then stop and come back to it later in the day.
