How To Effectively Use Clicker Training Part One

Clicker TrainingAnother tactic, used a lot in professional dog training, which you can use for training your puppy or dog is to use a simple tool known as a clicker. Clicker training must be used in conjunction with giving your dog or puppy a treat.

The clicker is exactly this, a small piece of dog training equipment which when pressed lets off a clicking sound which when coupled with giving your dog or puppy a treat for being well behaved, they will then associate showing good behavior with hearing this clicking sound and receiving a treat.

And here’s the thing…

When you associate the dog clicker with a treat at anytime your dog or puppy does something you want them to do, your dog or puppy associates good or desired behavior with receiving a few dog training treats. This method of applying dog clicker training has been proven on many occasions to be the most effective way to start and get results with dog house training.

Clicker training is a great example of how to apply positive reinforcement to train your dog however it  requires you to be repetitive, consistent and reinforcement needs to be directed towards your dog or puppy at all times when they show good behavior.

If you don’t use this technique correctly then you could very easily confuse your dog and then you’ll be wasting your time and the desired end results won’t be achieved.
 Clicker Training
The great thing about using a clicker for dogs is that it doesn’t require any violent or harsh corrective methods which some dog trainers still use today and you can easily carry your clicker and a bag of treats around with you anywhere you go with your dog.

It is also a great method to use for crate training dogs because you can instantly mark at the very moment your dog goes in the crate. Just make sure you give your dog a treat to back up the click.

So here you’ve learned a little bit about what clicker training is. In part two I’ll be giving you an overview on how to use a dog clicker and how this should be applied when you’re using training your puppy or dog.
