@weepingwillow11 my dog has never been in a class, i simply taught him from home when on the leash you apply pressure when he walks foward, say heel and when he walks next to you for about 5 seconds, give him a treat my dog does fine

@confispect if you are not an experienced dog owner, DO NOT get either of these dogs, i suggest a first dog a lab, good temperment friendly with people dogs and children, make sure you exercise it like hell though

I want a cool dog but I can’t decide between a Rottweiler, or a German Sherperd, what the temperments of both? The downsides and ups

but an alpha nonetheless. =] I’d love to hear how things go with your rottie. Post a comment on my page sometime. Oh, and don’t let her sleep in your bed or get on your furniture or anything. I know it’s tempting, but not only will it be difficult when she’s fully grown, but it makes the sheets smell (D=) and messes with her head a little. It’s better if you choose her own space (like the video said!) and have her sleep there. Ah, I think I’ve said as much as I can. Good luck! =]

(cont. 2) help mellow her out a little. Eventually she won’t want to go everywhere (how’s she doing now? It’s been a few weeks since your comment.). Search “leash training” on google and look at the links. Don’t use negative reinforcement, but simply turn around. Check out animal-planet “It’s Me Or The Dog.” She has an excellent way with leash training that involves turning around when the dog pulls ahead. I think it’s animal planet anyway. =p Be your dog’s alpha. A nice alpha,

(cont.) Let her socialize with the other dogs there too. Take her to someplace like PetsMart. Be prepared for messes (hey, they happen =p) and spend a little time hanging out. Maybe get her a treat while you’re there. =] but your mission is to socialize your dog. There are resources online, and some great books you should look at too. Your rottie will be awesome, but it is mandatory for you to do stuff like this. She will be the love of your doggie life. =] Socializing will also

Rotties used to be cart pullers back in the day, as well as herders, so they pull. I am begging, please enroll your puppy in an obedience class A.S.A.P. Trust me, you’ll regret it the rest of your life if you do not. I believe most classes teach heel amongst other things, so it’ll help a little. As for her energy, make sure she gets out. Look online to find a dog park in your area and take her there. You said she loves to play, so get a favorite toy and play catch with her there.

@jessief0r3v3r why have you got a Rottweiler when you don’t know how to do a simple thing like leash training?! I’m sorry, but that’s an accident waiting to happen

Yeah… i agree theres no need to beat them senseless or break their spirit, but i do give a smack across the haunches or face, large breeds have large pain tolerances but theres no need for a grown mans full strength, at the same time the dog needs consequences

@meyarz
I grew up raising boxers with my stepfather and I always wanted a Rottie…so I now have one and I have to say that he is absolutely the best dog I’ve ever had. I have owned big and small dogs but my Rottweiler (Maximus is his name) has been a good dog! That said, he has had his moments and you are right in that Rotties are very headstrong dogs.

Our Rottie male is VERY mellow compared to how our Lab was as a pup. He is very headstrong and likes to “test”… I would reccomend frequent outtings where you take your Rot walking and meeting other dogs/owners. I also take him out to “people watch” at an outdoor mall as he likes visual stimulation more than running and chasing balls like our lab… Great personality and a real character!
