While the idea is a good one this is a bit small for my puppy, at 11 wks old she is about the size of an adult Chihuahua, it is only about the size of a can of pop. She does snuggle with it but enjoys playing with it more. In the time span of 2 hours the tail is about chewed off, but another knot in the end fixed it for the time being. I think this would be a great toy for the smaller breed puppies.

I was excited about getting this for my golden puppy I was about to bring home. She however did not want anything to do with it. The idea of warming it up for comfort seemed great, but she would not snuggle with it, even in her crate. She occasionally will chew on it a bit but that’s all. Seems to be made well though.

This product is supposed hold several hours of heat for a puppy to snuggle with, but it cooled off completely within 15 minutes. I couldn’t believe it! It’s a shame, because it’s cute and well-made. I think I’ll buy the snuggle-safe heat pad instead, which reputably holds 8 hours of heat.
It’s also smaller than it appears–about the size of a 6″x8″ note card.

Our 8 month old lab has played with this toy since she was 7 weeks old, and it is still in excellent shape! She has deheaded, shredded, mutilated, and otherwise destroyed about 30 other soft toys. As a little puppy, she was often lulled to sleep with “red dog” as I call it. She enjoys the string tail and running and shaking it violently. I would suggest it for any puppy. Even at 60 lbs. now, she still plays with it.

I purchased this as a cuddle toy for our new puppy. I took it along when we picked up the puppy and I let his litter mates play with it for awhile (read that in a review). At bedtime, I warmed it up and placed it with the puppy. It worked like a charm, he slept though the night without a whimper! Now, 6 weeks later, its still his favorite toy and can really hold up to a chewer and many tug-o-wars. He does love to chew the back to try to get to the beans inside, so I just spray the seam with bitter apple and he leaves it alone.
UPDATE October 2008: Well, it’s STILL his favorite toy (and longest lasting!!). I did have to remove the beans because he discovered how to open the back, but he loves to play with this toy.
