would obedience school help a dog that growls?

i recently bought a 10 mnth old female dog online from a women who is a breeder/dog show veteran. i assumed she had a few dog when i got there she had well over 20 dogs. all the dogs looked well cared for and seemed happy. however i have noticed that the dog i bought seems to have very strong pack mentality she growls constantly at everybody besides me. she is definitely trying to stake out her role in my family. I’m trying very hard to gently teach her its not OK to growl but it doesn’t seem to be working. is growling something that would be well addressed in obedience school?

Well actually its not something that would be able to be properly addressed in a group setting like obedience school. Because there are alot of other dogs and humans around in an obedience classrom setting, it’s very hard for a “barker” or in your case a “howler” to learn that its not OK, since she’s hearing other dogs bark.
Best bet would be an in-home visit from a dog trainer. Have the trainer come by for a 1 hour visit (usually $45) and work 1 on 1. This is SO much better for you and the dog because you can address any and all concerns and questions you have about the dog to the trainer, and the trainer can work with you 1 on 1 showing you how to train your dog.

THat’s my advice anyways… and Ive had howlers! (2 Alaskan Malamutes!) Ive always done 1 on 1 home visits with my trainer… you develop a better repore with a 1 on 1 visit too, so the trainer knows you and the dog better when and if you ever need to call them to ask follow up questions.

Yes, both of you will benefit from obedience school! She is adolescent, you need to be “mom”.
