I just starred this for a friend of mine/contact in hopes that she sees this. She had a Diabetic dog that was just euthanized yesterday. Maybe she will tell you her story. This person is not a dog section regular, but a very dear friend of mine.
They can live a very long healthy life if treated properly with insulin. I had a chihuahua with diabetes and she lived to be 12, which is rather long for her breed. Diabetes doesn’t have to limit your pet.
Canine diabetes in the aging dog can be managed to maintain your dog’s quality of life and extend his life expectancy to three or more years. Untreated diabetes can result in many complications including kidney disease, blindness and death http://www.dog-breed-facts.com/articles/Dog-Diabetes.html
Someone answering this question can’t even spell “veterinarians” correctly so I KNOW that person is not a vet.
As for a dog with diabetes, I found this website to be useful: http://www.caninediabetes.org/cdfaq.html

Why would a Vet ask this question?
