The best way to kill fleas is by using a topical treatment like Comfortis which kills them on the skin, as well as one that gets into the bloodstream and also prevent heartworms like Sentinel, etc. Once the bugs are gone the best long-term way to help itchiness is by getting fish oil suppoements from your vet for stregthening their skin and coat quality. Other than that check for allergies and look out for a yeasty smell which requires special shampoo, and for anemia in your dog.
