Stop Puppy Biting

Stop Puppy BitingThe best way to stop puppy biting is to treat him like his mother would do. The reason why puppy’s bite is because they are getting used to their mouth and they use their mouth to get used to their surroundings, biting, mouthing, nipping and chewing are the only ways a puppy can discover all about their surroundings and all four of these traits are normal for any puppy. But too much puppy biting can be bad and can lead to a dangerous dog when they are older; this is how a lot of dog biting problems and issues with aggression can emanate from.

So to stop puppy biting using the techniques his mother would of used is really easy to do but you must first learn what happens to a puppy when he is with his pack. For about the first six weeks of your puppy’s life whilst with his mother and litter he will learn that too much biting won’t be tolerated and if he continues there will be negative consequences from his actions. This is why a puppy shouldn’t be taken from his litter within the first six to eight weeks because this whole process is need to properly get a puppy ready for the outside world.

If you get your puppy home before this eight week milestone then you as the owner will need to take over the responsibility from the mother of puppy training biting. You do this by not allowing your puppy to excessively bite in the first place and you do this by not encouraging him to bite even if you are only playing with him. It might be just playing now but your puppy is learning that its ok to bite and he will continue to use this as a form of playing with anyone or any dog he meets. And the results can be catastrophic because it’s the dog who will end up paying the ultimate price. I strongly believe that any dog who has been put dog because of a dog biting incident, the owner of the dog should receive a harsh punishment also for mis-raising the dog in the first place.

How To Stop Puppies From Biting

There is a process you can follow to stop puppy biting excessively and to make sure you don’t have a problem with biting dogs later in your his life.

1) When you play with your puppy make sure that you don’t do anything to make him think biting is ok. Avoid encouraging him to bite and don’t place things in his mouth and start to play ‘tug of war’ with him. Encourage him to play with a toy in his mouth but he uses his mouth to pick the toy up and not to attack the toy or to try to snatch it from your hands.

2) If your puppy does bite you (this can be an actual bite that hurts you or that your skin touches his teeth) let out a very very loud, short scream and then stop playing with your puppy for a few minutes. Then return to him after this short time. You control the play time, rinse and repeat this every time your puppy’s teeth touches your skin.

3) To stop puppy biting you could also try a physical grab of the scruff of your puppies neck and with a raised, firm voice say “NO” or some other short sharp command you feel comfortable with (don’t shout or ball at your puppy).

Seek advice from a professional dog trainer if you’re unsure about applying the third method but your puppies mother would normally pick up or bite a puppy on the neck as this is a sign of dominance. Some dogs show dominance over another dog by placing their chin on another dogs neck.

Follow these tips and you should successfully stop puppy biting fairly quickly.

How To Stop Puppy Biting

How To Stop Puppy BitingBefore you learn how to stop puppy biting you first need to know that you shouldn’t allow your puppy to bite you. It’s cute and funny when they mouth you uncontrollably, especially your hands and feet. So the best way to learn how to stop puppy biting is to not teach him that its ok to bite in the first place. If you do this you’ll avoid dog biting problems when he’s older.

I’m going to share with you’re a handful of tips on how to stop puppy biting you and these techniques will also help stop puppy from biting, in fact if anyone who buys a puppy applies these techniques early on they won’t have any dog biting issues later in the dogs life.

The first thing you can learn on how to stop puppy biting is that when they start to mouth your hand or feet you give off a very loud, high pitched yelping sound and then immediately ignore your puppy. What this does is takes your puppy’s attention from playing (which is what he thinks he is doing) and makes him stop in his tracks. Then you ignoring him gives off the signal to your puppy that he no longer has your attention and if you do this each and every time his teeth touch your skin you’ll see that he will stop the biting because he doesn’t like the sound you make or the lack of attention you don’t give him. With this technique make sure that you only ignore him for about a minute or so and that you go back to giving him some praise and attention. One key thing to remember with how to stop puppy biting is that your puppy doesn’t need to actually bite you, what you’re trying to achieve here is you don’t want your dog biting you at all which will stop his urges to actually bite.

If you find that your voice alone doesn’t have any affect try creating a shaker (for example put some small stones into an empty plastic bottle) and at the same time you give off your yelp you shake the bottle near your puppy. Try shaking the bottle behind him as this will draw his attention away from your hand.

As a last resort you could try actually grabbing the puppy by the loose fur on the back of his neck (this is where his mother would grab him to move him around) and give a short, sharp and very firm “NO.” Don’t pick him up to your eye level or shake him just a simple grab and no to reinforce that he shouldn’t be biting. When you have done this give your puppy a toy. Eventually you’ll just need the verbal command to get your puppy to do this.

Follow this advice on how to stop puppy biting and you’ll find that your puppy will soon learn that his playful biting will not be accepted with you. By introducing this to him as a puppy will ensure that he doesn’t grow up thinking that biting things and people is ok. You’ll find that you won’t have and issues with biting dogs or your dog hurting anyone unexpectedly.

This method has been used by many owners and has always been an effective way on how to stop puppy biting excessively.

Stop Dog Biting

Stop Dog BitingIf you own a dog that consistently attacks and bites anyone or anything he meets then you have a very steep hill to climb to stop dog biting. To stop dogs biting you need to first find out why your dog is doing what he does, once you identify this you can put in place some form of dog training biting solution.

One reason your dog biting problems could stem from is that they are unfamiliar with where they live and where you take them for walks, still it should be no excuse for them to attack like they do but unfortunately they do attack and you must look at this as one of the reasons why he does. Biting dogs usually come about because of psychological triggers that the dog has embedded from past experiences in his life and if you can take your dogs attention from these triggers you will be able to stop dog biting incidents from ever occurring.

When I say a psychological trigger been embedded from when they were younger I mean for example if they had a puppy biting problem and were allowed to continue they learn or embed in their brain that they bite to get their own way and although it may have been cute when they were a pup and that their nipping didn’t hurt so much when they grow up their jaw becomes a lot stronger and their teeth can do a lot more damage. When he thinks he’s playing he is actually hurting whatever he decides to bite and been able to stop dog biting will be more difficult to do.

How To Stop Dog Biting

One of the best ways I know to stop dog biting that you can start putting into practice right now is to stop putting your dog into situations where he may be under stress. If you take him for a walk to a public park and there are lots of dogs that go there and he feels the need to go after all of these dogs, constantly pulling on the lead, barking at anything that comes near him and the ones that get too close he goes for then try going to the same park but go to a more quieter part which will allow him to see the other dogs but they will be at a distance that your dog will know he can’t do anything about. Then gradually move your dog closer to these other dogs and at every point he starts to go mad change your direction and walk him the opposite way that you just came from (take a 180 degree turn).

This will work if you stick to it because what you’re saying to your dog is that as soon as he starts to show this bad behavior he is taken away from it. Over time you will be able to get closer to the other dogs but this method has worked for me with some of the dogs I’ve had biting problems with and it’s the first thing I try to stop dog biting issues with a problematic dog who misbehaves when we are out for walks.
